ABOUT AGENT4CHANGE

The Agent4Change Contest

Alberta's Credit Unions held the Agent4Change contest to for a few reasons. We wanted to see what causes were on the minds and in the hearts of Alberta's youth, and we wanted to find a social cause that we could rally the credit unions behind.

The contest began in February 2008. Posters, stickers and information packages were sent to post-secondary institutions across the province. Our call to action was supported by school media, appeals to instructors and not-for-profit group leaders, local transit advertising, and of course credit unions.

The Agent4Change contest generated over 90 entrants. While some couldn't get their videos in by March 28th, many did. With great difficulty we narrowed entries down to the top 10 and posted them on our site for viewing. The top 10 candidates then campaigned for votes until April 8th when the votes were tabulated. Popular vote composed half of the total mark; the rest came from our judges.

The combined scores made a tough decision between two candidates, Rob Aronson with Spread the Love, and Jonathan Simpson who was trying to eradicate racism. Both received top marks in the public vote. In the end, the judges chose to support the Spread the Love program. But because it was such a close mark, we decided to also give the prize of a laptop to Jonathan Simpson.

ANOTHER CONTEST?

Will you host another contest?

Right now we are supporting our current winner, Rob Aronson, but there is a good possibility we will hold another contest in the near future.
