Credit Unions:

The Spread the Love program is a great way to bring your work team together and support a good cause. As group of well-connected people, members of your corporate team can be very effective at raising funds for sandwich materials, getting a team together and finding worthy recipients.

Corporate groups can get creative in how they raise money for sandwich making. It could be the 'casual Friday' jar, office donations or a more conventional form of fund raising with your customers, members or staff.

Whatever the method to get there, this program has found that the end is equally rewarding for those who participate.

Youth:

Here's a great opportunity to meet new people and get your friends together for a really worthwhile cause - helping to feed people in your community that may not get enough to eat daily. Recruit other youth through your friends, social networking sites, your school newspaper or bulletin board and have them over to make sandwiches.

Spread the Love every month - if you develop a good relationship with the drop-off place, you could get your group together each month to make sandwiches. Have your volunteers each bring $5 to cover sandwich-making supplies. This also reduces your need to fundraise. There are lots of other creative fund-raising ideas. Contact us for details.

Spread the Love in colder months - When the temperature drops, some groups deliver their sandwiches with gently used warm clothes like hats, mitts and boots. This is generally appreciated but still something you should discuss with whoever is receiving your sandwiches like a food bank or drop-in shelters.

Hear what others have to say about the program:

"It was just so easy, so fun... and something simple to do for people."

"It was the first time that I took a leadership role in my community... I got a lot out of it and it was so easy."

"In addition to making sandwiches we also raised a thousand dollars that we gave to the Mustard Seed."

Teachers/Leaders:

This is not only a community-minded volunteering opportunity for your class or school, but also a unique leadership opportunity as well. Spread the Love builds inter-personal skills and gives students a chance to plan and get involved in leadership activities, like fundraising and recruiting/organizing volunteers, for this worthwhile event. We have found that Spread the Love often brings confidence to those who participate in it. Most importantly, the program brings student awareness of Canadian poverty and homelessness, while allowing them to make a tangible difference.
