The Spread the Love program inspires neighbours to help neighbours, bringing attention to daily hunger and homelessness until both are eliminated.

"The mission of Spread the Love is to inspire and motivate communities to help the hungry and homeless by making them sandwiches. To date, Spread the Love has delivered over 22,000 sandwiches within Calgary and brought awareness to an important social cause."
"I know that sandwiches won't solve Canadian poverty, but while other dedicated organizations and people work on breaking the cycle of homelessness and hunger, Spread the Love is there to give a meal and some love to those who need it most."
What made you start Spread the Love?
Living in Montreal, Ottawa and Calgary has given me a broad perspective of Canada's hunger crisis. This experience, combined with my passion to help people, led me to form Spread the Love. I figured there were other youth that would feel like I did about helping the homeless and hungry so I began with them to rally around my cause.
Have you always gravitated towards helping people?
When I was five years old, I was walking with my mother to the bank to make my first deposit. But outside a homeless man was laying on a bench and soon that 50 cents became his property. So yes, I have always gravitated towards helping others and Spread the Love is a way for me to give back. I firmly believe that there is power in numbers. This explains why I am so excited to bring communities together to make change!
Tell us a bit more about yourself?
Currently I study at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Medicine. I am working towards my Bachelor of Health Sciences. I enjoy sports, music, the outdoors and I value my friendships - especially with my brothers.
The program must have a time commitment for you, what keeps you working at it?
My drive is to build stronger and kinder communities. I know that we can alleviate hunger by working together as compassionate people. The hungry need us.
What do you hope to achieve with this program?
My vision is to feed all Albertans who are in need. Our future goal is to spread nationally from coast to coast.
"Lots of people say that young people today are the leaders of tomorrow, I like to say young people today are the leaders of today."
- Rob Aronson, Founder of Spread the Love
Will you host another contest?
Right now we are supporting our current winner, Rob Aronson, but there is a good possibility we will hold another contest in the near future.
Spread the Love provides youth the confidence, encouragement and leadership skills needed to combat hunger from a leadership position.
